Ahead of the October 10 premiere of Enlightened on HBO, cast mates Diane Ladd and Laura Dern recently shared their thoughts on what fans can expect from the new HBO drama/comedy.
According to Hollywood Reporter, fans of Diane Ladd and Laura Dern will see both actresses in the new HBO series Enlightened which features Ladd and Dern as mother and daughter, which they are in real life.
In Enlightened, Laura Dern stars as Amy, a woman who finds a new lease on life from a rehab facility in Hawaii after suffering a public meltdown. Amy returns from Hawaii with a new outlook on life, including the relationship with her mother, played by Diane Ladd.
At a recent red carpet event for Enlightened, Laura Dern explained to Hollywood Reporter that it’s easier to work with her mother now that she herself is more mature. “It’s a very different experience than working with her in my early 20s,” said Dern, “as I said to her jokingly a few minutes ago, ‘You know when we worked together when I was 20, every word you said triggered me, now every eighth word you say triggers me – so there is incremental growth!”
As for her mother and her Enlightened experience, Diane Ladd revealed that she couldn’t watch her daughter have a mental breakdown on camera. “If I’m not in the scene with her,” said Ladd, “I’m not going to watch her go through that. No, that tears my heart.”
Enlightened premieres October 10 on HBO at 9:30 PM ET.
