Comic book writer and artist Joe Simon, co-creator of Captain America with Jack Kirby, died on Wednesday at the age of 98.
According to USA Today, Captain America co-creator Joe Simon passed away Wednesday night in New York at the age of 98.
Simon is credited with creating the Marvel super hero Captain America along with Jack Kirby when the company was called Timley Comics. In addition to Captain America, Joe Simon also worked with Kirby on Newsboy Legion, Boy Commandos, and others for National Periodicals, which eventually became DC Comics.
The first edition of Captain America debuted in 1940. The first cover featured Captain America punching Hitler in the face, as a way to rally support for America to join World War II.
