Prometheus: 4 Things We Love About the Trailer
20th Century Fox released the first trailer for the new Ridley Scott sci-fi movie Prometheus on Wednesday, which gives fans their first look at Scott’s return to the genre and what to expect when Prometheus hits theaters on June 8.
Although the new trailer for Prometheus is only long enough to catch a glimpse of what many believe is a prequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien, the teaser still leaves us wondering more about the characters played by Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, and Idris Elba.
And since this is the first of many trailers we’ll likely see for Prometheus in the coming months, we’ve put together the four things we like about the Prometheus trailer so far.
Check out the 4 Things We Like About the Prometheus Trailer below:
We don’t really know …
Although the new trailer for Prometheus doesn’t give detailed background footage on what actually happens in the film or feature much dialogue at all, it’s the lack of information that raises a lot of questions. Namely, is this a prequel to Alien, or what? Although many believe that Prometheus is a prequel to Ridley Scott’s classic Alien, Scott continues to say that Prometheus is not connected to Alien franchise. Or is it? If Prometheus turns out to be a relative of the Alien films, we’re happy to be kept in the dark ahead of time.
Familiar Title Text
Although Ridley Scott claimed that Prometheus is not associated with the Alien franchise, the Prometheus title text fades into view the exact same way as Alien in 1979. We have to admit: after checking out the Prometheus trailer, we have serious doubts that it isn’t connected to Alien.
The Tagline Says It All
After it was reported that Prometheus centers around a group of deep space astronauts searching for the origins of mankind, which they find but it’s not what they expect, the story couldn’t be more intriguing. Going into the new Prometheus trailer, the only thing we could picture were space travelers meeting an all-knowing entity that created the human race. Instead, what we see in the trailer is death and destruction on a far off planet inhabited by a dangerous life form. To further shatter our image of a benevolent supreme being was the tagline, which reads, “They went looking for our beginning. What they found could be our end.”
Ridley Returns
The return of Ridley Scott to sci-fi is kind of like Michael Jordan returning to basketball from baseball. Well, sort of, but you can get the point! In today’s world, it would be like Rihanna returning to her pop diva roots after pursuing a career as an opera singer. Having been away from the sci-fi community for the past three decades, Ridley Scott could very well turn the genre on its head like he did with Blade Runner and Alien. In fact, the Prometheus trailer gave us exactly what we wanted from a new Ridley Scott sci-fi. Very few filmmakers have been able to explore the many intricate layers of the human condition through science fiction like Ridley Scott.
