The Bachelor Recap: Skinny Dipping Seconds

475 days ago by Alison Cox

This week’s episode of The Bachelor with Ben Flajnik produced more emotional ABC drama when two Bachelor hopefuls were sent packing in Puerto Rico.

The fifth episode of The Bachelor got underway on Monday night with new Bachelor Ben Flajnik and the remaining girls on the Vieques Island in Puerto Rico. Before the drama, conflict, and usual insecurity erupted, host Chris Harrison popped into the resort to let the girls know there would be two one-on-one dates and a group date, with all of the girls getting time with Ben.

That’s right, all of the girls would have enough time this week to plead with Ben not to reject them on national television. And when it was all said and done, that didn’t go so well for some Bachelor hopefuls.

But more on that in a second …

The first one-on-one date saw Ben and Texas native Nicki Sterling hop a helicopter for Old San Juan to spend a day in the sun. But just when the date got underway, it poured rain and both were forced into a clothing boutique where Ben came out looking more like he was ready to film a coffee bean commercial than continue a date. Ben’s white shoes with matching pants and hat actually made Nicki stand out for the first time this season.

After the two just happened to stumble upon a wedding in progress, Nicki opened up about her previous marriage and was later rewarded with a rose for her honesty about wanting to live with a man first before she gets married again. Nothing says commitment to a previously rejected and humiliated Bachelor like I’d rather live with you first. But that’s beside the point.

So, where did that leave the other girls? Well, Elyse Myers was chosen for the second one-on-one date while the other girls were divided into two teams before hitting the baseball field at Roberto Clemente stadium to play for the group date.

Fast forward five minutes …

Lindzi Cox, Kacie B., Casey S. and Jamie Otis were in for the group date while Blakeley Shea, Emily O’Brien, Jennifer Fritsch, and Rachel Truehart were on the outside looking into the romantic fishbowl as the helicopter picked the winners up in front of them. Ouch! And you had to feel bad for poor Blakeley who was a one-girl baseball team as she feverishly shagged fly balls, dove for grounders, ran bases, and hit the ball like a rabid mad woman in attempt to win one more precious moment with Ben. Blakeley, if The Bachelor doesn’t work out for you, the Red Sox could use your help.

As for Elyse and her one-on-one date with Ben, well, let’s just say it was a low point for the show and The Bachelor himself. After spending the day with Elyse on board a swanky, high priced yacht, Ben wasn’t feeling the love come dinnertime. Following dinner, Ben picked up the rose as if he was about to hand it to her, kept it in his hands for Elyse to see, but instead sent her packing from Puerto Rico … in a dinghy!!! Yeah, a rubber dinghy. As Ben looked at the yacht from the shore, Elyse was forced to climb into a motorized dinghy in tears and hit the open ocean in her evening gown. I guess sending the poor girl home on the yacht (at least on camera) would have been too classy for The Bachelor.

But anyway, the turning point of The Bachelor came later when season five snake charmer Courtney Robertson lured Ben out of his lair and into the ocean for a skinny dipping session  behind the backs of the other girls. After stripping off their clothes and running into the water, Courtney drove her fangs into Ben’s lips as the two embraced, naked in the water.

So, we’re only five episodes into The Bachelor and the girls are reduced to Courtney’s naked seconds. Not a smart move by The Bachelor. And although the episode ended with the shocking elimination of Jennifer Fritsch, at least she and Elyse walked away with some shred of dignity.

Did anyone else feel like taking a shower after watching The Bachelor last night?
