The Glee Project: Dani Shay, “I know myself so much better”

344 days ago by Reg Seeton

After the second episode of The Glee Project for season two, Dani Shay said goodbye to her fellow Glee competitors after falling into the bottom three.

Although Justin Bieber look-alike Dani Shay got a second shot at reality stardom on The Glee Project, the musical style of Glee wasn’t the right fit for Dani since the former America’s Got Talent singer was eliminated this week. Despite getting a shot on The Glee Project, Dani Shay proved that she has the vocal pipes but struggled when it came to Dance-ability week.

So, how did Dani Shay feel about her own dance ability and whether she knew it would be a problem going into The Glee Project? As Dani told The Deadbolt the day after being eliminated, she knew dance choreography would be a challenge.

“Dancing has been something that I have gotten a little bit more comfortable with in the last year or so. I was in musical theater in high school and I had a very hard time picking up with choreography and it was always a challenge. So I knew coming in that there would be a Dance-ability week.”

Although Dani gave the dance choreography her best effort, Shay was obviously nervous after Glee Project mentor Robert Ulrich announced that the contestants would compete within the theme of Dance-ability. As a result of nerves or just plain “ability,” Dani couldn’t cut The Glee Project mustard when it came to moving effectively with the timing.

But that didn’t stop the passionate Dani Shay from trying.

So, with dance an obvious challenge, did Dani know she’d be at a disadvantage this week on The Glee Project?

“I knew it was going to be hard but I didn’t know that I was going to go home necessarily on Dance-ability week. I think it comes down to just really being able to let go and not being concerned with getting every move exactly right.”

From wowing fans of America’s Got Talent with her rendition of Justin Bieber’s “Baby” to getting a second chance at musical success on The Glee Project, Dani Shay has built up her own loyal fan base who already consider her a star.

Unlike many singers trying to strike it big by auditioning for reality shows, Shay has gotten national exposure on two huge shows.

After being on both America’s Got Talent and The Glee Project, how does Dani feel that she’s grown in order to carve out her own unique career in music?

“That’s exactly what I feel I’ve been able to do. Having been on both of these shows, I feel like I know myself so much better as an artist and a performer. Both of them have pushed me in unique ways. And they’ve definitely been humbling experiences because I’ve met so many amazing and very talented people.”

At 23 and two reality shows later, Dani Shay has the whole world in front of her. With more than 87,000 Facebook friends and almost 40,000 followers on Twitter, it’s clear that many fans have already connected to her musical style.

So, what does the future hold for Dani Shay now that her journey on The Glee Project has come to an end?

As Dani told The Deadbolt, it’s about getting in touch with who she is as she continues to evolve.

“I just feel like going forward that I’m going to be really in touch with my music and creating amazing songs. I actually had a cool kind of vision that it would be really neat if one day I released a song that was really popular and Glee actually did the song, a rendition of it.”

The Glee Project airs Tuesday nights at 10/9c.
