Ice Age: Continental Drift took the top spot at the Friday box office after the animated film grossed $16.5 million in its first day.
Ice Age: Continental Drift, the fourth film in the animated Ice Age franchise, took in $16.5 million on Friday to lead the way over The Amazing Spider-Man at $10.3 million and Ted with $6.9 million in Friday box office sales.
Industry analysts have Ice Age: Continental Drift on track for a $45-50 million weekend take at the box office come Monday morning. The three day total looks to be in line with the last Ice Age film in 2009, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which finished its first weekend with close to $42 million in opening sales.
Ice Age: Continental Drift stars the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Keke Palmer, Chris Wedge, Peter Dinklage, Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Drake and Nicki Minaj.
Rounding out the top five at the Friday box office were Magic Mike with $3.4 million and Pixar’s animated hit Brave at $3.3 million.
