The Hobbit to be Split into Three Movies

Director Peter Jackson confirmed that The Hobbit will now be split into three movies due to the expansiveness of the Hobbit story.

Although The Hobbit was intended to be two parts, Peter Jackson announced on Monday that The Hobbit will be split into three movies as a trilogy. Jackson confirmed the news on Facebook after revealing that all of the studios involved in the project are fully supporting that The Hobbit be told in the proper way.

“New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Wingnut Films, and the entire cast and crew of The Hobbit films, I’d like to announce that two films will become three,” said Jackson in the pub

lic statement. “It has been an unexpected journey indeed, and in the words of Professor Tolkien himself, “a tale that grew in the telling.”

The Hobbit is a prequel to highly successful The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Hobbit films will be released in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
