Michael J. Fox will return to series TV on NBC in a new comedy inspired by his life after the network confirmed the news on Monday.

After speculation surfaced last week that Michael J. Fox would make a return to regular series television, it was confirmed on Monday that Fox will star in a new single camera comedy inspired by his life. With a 22-episode order for the show, Michael J. Fox will play a husband and father dealing with life’s struggles, including Parkinson’s disease, while living in New York City.

NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt recently shared his excitement about bringing Michael J. Fox to the network. “To bring Michael J. Fox back to NBC, ” said Greenblatt, “is a supreme honor and we are thrilled that one of the great comedic television stars is coming home again.”

The new Michael J. Fox comedy will debut in the fall of 2013.
