When The Voice returned to NBC on Monday night, New York singer Trevin Hunte brought down the house with a powerful rendition of Beyonce’s “Listen.”
During Monday night’s third season premiere of The Voice, Trevin Hunte of New York City hit the stage as the final performer of the evening. Already an early frontrunner, Trevin delivered a near flawless version of Beyonce’s “Listen” off of the DreamGirls soundtrack, which prompted coaches Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera to turn their chairs.
When it was all said and done after the first phase of Blind Auditions, Trevin chose Cee Lo to be his coach for the season.
Speaking with The Deadbolt the next day, Trevin explained why he selected Cee Lo over Blake and Christina.
“With Cee Lo,” said Trevin after the Season 3 premiere, “I’m just hoping to show people that there’s another side to me.”
Interestingly, although Trevin knows exactly where his comfort zone is as a singer given his powerful vocals, Hunte is looking for Cee Lo to take him to new and diverse territory.
“I do have a powerful voice,” Trevin added, “but I feel like people put me in a box as far as singing strong ballads. I think by being on Cee Lo’s team, I could have the chance of doing some pop or even venturing out to do some country and switching it up.”
