Resident Evil: Retribution: 6 Bad Ass Females in Movies

246 days ago by Nadya Vlassoff

Now that Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez are in Resident Evil: Retribution, we’re taking a look back at some of the most bad ass females in movies.

Although Milla Jovovich returns to the big screen as the gun-toting ex-Umbrella Corp employee Alice in Resident Evil: Retribution, along with Michelle Rodriguez as former Umbrella commando Rain Ocampo, many bad ass women have paved the way for Jovovich and Rodriguez as female action heroes.

Sure there have been hundreds of actresses that could easily make a top female action list, but we’d be writing for weeks.

Here’s our 6 bad ass females in movies list below.

Rose McGowan in Planet Terror

When you watch Rose McGowan in Robeert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror, it’s hard to believe she was on Charmed. But even if Grindhouse isn’t your thing and you haven’t seen Planet Terror, there’s a good chance you HAVE seen the photo of McGowan and her machine gun leg.

Just how bad ass is Rose McGowan? Well, not only did she marry Robert Rodriguez but at one point she almost got hitched to Marilyn Manson. Hey, at least Rose is never boring.

Michelle Rodriguez in, well … everything!

Say what you want about Michelle Rodriguez, but the girl is bad ass. Forget about Girl Fight, Avatar, Machete, the Resident Evil franchise and those Fast and Furious movies, Rodriguez was in Uwe Boll’s BloodRayne! That must count for something, right?

When asked by HollywoodNews about her feelings on being typecast as a bad ass chick, Rodriguez responded appropriately. “I could give two shits,” she said about her tough characters in movies. “I only want to be someone I respect or someone that I consider interesting or fun. I’m here to entertain people and make a statement about female empowerment and strength.” #badasschick

Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman

When it comes to bad ass superhero girls, there’s way too many to count. Forget Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway, Michelle Pfeiffer was the perfect Catwoman and looked mighty bad ass in her black cat-suit in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns back in 1992.

Pfeiffer also gave a bad ass portrayal of the bumbling Selina Kyle who completely transforms herself into a more confident, sexy female when under the Catwoman persona.

Uma Thurman as The Bride in Kill Bill (I and II)

How bad ass would Uma Thurman be without Quentin Tarantino? It’s an interesting question but it’s beside the point. Sure Uma Thurman was bad ass in Pulp Fiction, but she was even more so in both Kill Bill films in the role of Beatrix Kiddo, aka The Bride.

Who can forget the Yakuza fight scene that ended with The Bride scalping O-Ren Ishii? It doesn’t get much better than a bride with a Samurai sword who looks like Bruce Lee from Game of Death!

Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor in Terminator 2

When Arnold Schwarzenegger said he’d back in Terminator, he had nothing on Linda Hamilton. In between Terminator to Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Linda Hamilton went from a meek, mild mannered 80s waitress to gun-toting, bad-ass mom as Sarah Connor. As far as bad ass transformations go, Linda Hamilton’s turn as Sarah Connor in Terminator 2 raised the bar for female action stars and paved the road for such actresses as Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil.

From Terminator to Terminator 2, Hamilton became as much an action star as Arnold! We wish she’d come back!

Sigourney Weaver as Ripley in Alien

Really, can you imagine a bad ass females list without Sigourney Weaver? Five years prior to Linda Hamilton in Terminator, Weaver found herself aboard the spaceship Nostromo in the role of Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott’s Alien. When an alien invades the spacecraft, Ripley packs major heat and fire power to destroy an extra terrestrial serial killer.

Although we’re pretty sure that Weaver didn’t know it at the time, she was actually writing the female action hero handbook for Bass Ass Movie Chicks 101.

Who are your favorite bad ass females in movies?
