Resident Evil: Retribution Beats Nemo at Weekend Box Office

Resident Evil: Retribution dominated the weekend box office with an estimated $21.1 million in ticket sales to take the top spot over Finding Nemo 3D.

The fifth film in the Resident Evil franchise saw the return of Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez for another go as Umbrella corp gals Alice and Rain. Despite winning the weekend box office, Retribution didn’t match the debut of Resident Evil: Afterlife, which took in $26 million back in 2010.

Although Resident Evil: Retribution ruled the weekend box office, Disney/Pixar’s Finding Nemo 3D had a strong showing with $17.5 million to easily take the second spot.

Here are the top 5 weekend box office results:

1. Resident Evil: Retribution – $21.1 million
2. Finding Nemo 3D – $17.5 million
3. The Possession – $5.8 million
4. Lawless – $4.2 million
5. The Expendables 2 – $3 million
