Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj have been confirmed as American Idol judges and will join Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson for the upcoming 12th season.
On Sunday, Fox officially confirmed country star Keith Urban as judge on American Idol only two days after Urban left his position on the Australian version of The Voice. Although Urban claimed that he was too busy to return to The Voice due to his new album and a potential tour, all signs pointed to Urban joining American Idol.
In the official Fox release about the announcement of both Urban and Nicki Minaj, Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of FremantleMedia, the production company behind Idol, explained why the two make for great fits for the show.
“Nicki is someone who represents a different side of the music industry,” said Frot-Coutaz, “who has now crossed into mainstream culture with her unique artistry, style and flair. Keith is one of country music’s true stars who brings with him charm, wit and knowledge about the industry.”
