Jay-Z performed the first of eight sold out shows at the Barclays Center in New York City on Friday, the new $1 billion home of the Brooklyn Nets.
Friday’s show at the Barclays Center was an emotional event for Jay-Z who grew up in Brooklyn’s Marcy Houses area. With his old neighborhood not far from the Barclays Center, Jay-Z hit the stage in front of an 18,000 filled packed house.
To kick off the night, Jay-Z performed two dozen of his biggest hits, including part of Notorious B.I.G.’s hit “Juicy”. As a surprise bonus for fans at the Barclays Center, Jay-Z was joined on stage by rap pioneer Big Daddy Kane who performed “Ain’t No Half Steppin’” and “Warm It Up, Kane.”
At the end of the show, Jay-Z thanked both fans and Brooklyn for making him the man he is today.
With seven more sold-out concerts scheduled over the next week, Jay-Z will perform at the Barclays Center until October 6.
