When The Voice closed out the final Blind Auditions on Monday night, Cody Belew was picked by coach Cee Lo Green in the final seconds of his performance.
Although Cody Belew hit The Voice stage on Monday night with the country swag of a seasoned pro, Cee Lo Creen turned his chair in the final seconds to select Cody as the last singer for his team. In fact, Cee Lo hit his button so late in Belew’s rendition of “Hard to Handle” that Cody didn’t even know he was selected at first.
In a memorable celebratory moment on The Voice, Cody ran straight over to Cee Lo to give him hug. As Cody revealed before he took the stage, Cee Lo was his coach of choice.
Now that Cody Belew is on to the next round, what is he hoping that Cee Lo can bring out in him as a singer?
“I’m hoping that Cee Lo can bring out a level of stage production that I’ve never gotten to have at my disposal,” Cody told The Deadbolt the next day after his audition. “I’m really, really looking forward to the production of it all. That’s what I admire so much about this show, from seasons one and two, is that they really let the artists explore that and it comes across as an awards show performance.”
While on The Voice, Cody admitted that although he’s got country swag, he also believes that in a past life he was an old black woman, which fuels his love of soul music. However, Cody’s soul sound is heavily rooted gospel after singing at churches in Arkansas.
So what else is Cody looking forward to when working with Cee Lo this season?
“I’m really thrilled to just get to be creative with him and to have him say, ‘what do you think about this?’ or ‘let’s shock them with this!’ I’m hoping that people will tune in and want to know what Cee Lo and I are going to do next.”
