Gossip Girl returned to The CW airwaves on Monday night for a sixth and final season of high-society drama with the episode “Gone Maybe Gone”.

It’s been a tough summer for both Gossip Girl fans and those on the Upper Eastside. But like always, there was no shortage of drama in “Gone Maybe Gone” from New York’s elite.

As the season six premiere began, Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester) continued their will-they-or-won’t-they romance while Nate (Chase Crawford), believing he had the upper-hand on the real Gossip Girl, unwittingly romanced a teenager. As for Serena (Blake Lively), she made sure to bring yet another boy toy home after vanishing for the entire summer.

As fans know, it’s been six years of lies, cheating, backstabbing, breakups, and bad parenting, on Gossip Girl all within the same core group of five characters. And since they all room together, why haven’t Dan, Blair, Chuck, Serena, and Nate strangled each other by now? Maybe that’s why Serena ran off to Wisconsin.

To kick off the season, Chuck and Blair reunited for a romantic encounter in Monte Carlo but decided to hold off on their physical relationship until they get back to NYC. And once they got returned to the Big Apple, Chuck was forced to deal with Bart Bass (Robert J. Burke), who is back with Lily (Kelly Rutherford), while Blair tried to track down Serena.

When Serena arrived, however, it was with new love interest, Steven (guest star Barry Watson), in all his bad haircut glory. Given Serena’s bad history with healthy relationships, chances are high that this one will go up in flames soon, too.

As the Gossip Girl drama continued, Blair reached out to Serena in an attempt to get their friendship back on track. As one could expect, Serena shut her down despite Blair’s efforts to look for her. She even crashed a gay wedding, now all for nothing.

Like we’ve seen in the past, “Gone Maybe Gone” wasn’t without a stomach-turning twist, especially when it came to “new buddies” Dan (Penn Badgley) and Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg). When Georgina escorted Dan back to his Brooklyn apartment after helping on his book, Dan told her to leave, which she did, a little too giddily. Why would she do that?

Dan opened the door only to discover Rufus and Ivy in full coitus on the couch (to quite Dr. Sheldon Cooper). One thing’s for sure, it’ll probably take a whole lot of expensive vodka to drown that image out of Lonely Boy’s head.

So, where do our fierce fivesome go from here? Despite inching closer to the true identity of Gossip Girl, Nate’s about to get into hot water after learning his new love interest is only 17. Chuck is out for blood against Bart. Dan may need therapy to get over what he saw on the couch. Poor Blair, she has no one.

What did you make of this week’s Gossip Girl and the craziness in “Gone Maybe Gone”?

What do you think?
