Actor Clark Gregg plays Agent Phil Coulson in The Avengers and upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series
At New York Comic Con over the weekend, Marvel TV confirmed that Agent Phil Coulson would soon return in the new S.H.I.E.L.D. television series.
Although Agent Coulson (Gregg) was killed in The Avengers, it doesn’t quite look that way on the comic surface now that Coulson is slated to return. At the Marvel TV panel at NYCC, actor Clark Gregg appeared onstage to briefly talk about the role in the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series.
A video with Avengers director Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege gave fans insight into the future of Agent Coulson’s role in the Marvel Universe. “We all love Clark Gregg, there’s no doubt about that,” said Fiege. “From before we made The Avengers, we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death.”
“He’s headlining the S.H.I.E.L.D. show and always was,” added Joss Whedon.
With Agent Coulson back, fans have already started to speculate as to how the character will return. Perhaps as S.H.I.E.L.D. robot created by none other than Tony Stark?
The S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot is expected to air next fall.
