This week on The X Factor, Jason Brock was eliminated from competition ahead of the top 12 after falling into the bottom two with fellow singer CeCe Frey.
It was a wild and entertaining run for Jason Brock on The X Factor this season after the L.A. Reid singer became known for his flamboyant stage presence, Las Vegas style, and his nickname as “Mr. Entertainment.”
Although Jason gave fans a scaled back version of the Bonnie Tyler hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” before a last ditch “save me” attempt with R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly,” Brock couldn’t hang on for another week and was eliminated.
Throughout The X Factor season, Jason had a not and cold relationship with judge Simon Cowell (mostly cold), who thought Brock looked more like a singer in an Italian restaurant than a contender this week.
How did Jason feel a day later?
“I think that Simon had some valid points,” Brock admitted to reporters on a call after his elimination from The X Factor, “like the jacket I was wearing. But the other things were just mean, like implying I’m too fat to fly. He never really focused on my voice, which is really strong. He never said your voice was great.”
But Brock was also quick to correct himself about Simon’s feedback despite the criticisms.
“Well, that’s not true,” Jason confessed, “On the save me song, he did acknowledge that.”
Although Jason was grateful for his time on The X Factor and the exposure he received on a nationally televised show, Brock was also reflective about why he didn’t connect with Simon.
“I guess he just wasn’t feeling me,” Jason added to reporters. “I think he just wasn’t feeling me as a performer.”
Still, despite a lack of connection with Simon, Brock did connect with many fans across the country because of his upbeat personality and flamboyant style.
So, had he remained on The X Factor, what did Jason want to do from a production standpoint?
“I was thinking, appearance wise,” said Brock, “just totally going absolutely crazy with my styles, closer to Lady Gaga, Elton John. Then doing a song maybe like a Lady Gaga cover or something like that, or Rihanna.”
Although Jason tried his best with the song choices, he still felt they didn’t reflect his own identity as a singer.
“I felt like my first shows and live shows,” Jason continued, “when I was in the top 16, weren’t really so representative of me. I did the best that I possibly could. I don’t think it was quite me. The song that I did think was me was ‘I Believe I Can Fly.’”
Now that his journey on The X Factor is over, which contestant does Jason have his eye on to win?
“The one that I still think of as the frontrunner is Carly,” admitted Brock. “I think she is really, really talented. She so young and so talented. I always thought of her as my biggest competition.”
