Chevy Chase is mutually parting ways with the NBC comedy Community after taking issue with the show and direction of his character, Pierce Hawthorne.
It was confirmed this week by Hollywood Reporter that Chevy Chase will leave Community after a mutual agreement with the show’s producers.
The news won’t be a shock to anyone familiar with the recent behind-the-scenes happenings. For months, Chevy Chase has been unhappy with Community and the direction of his character.
Although Community wasn’t created around the character of Pierce Hawthorne, many fans love the fact that Chevy Chase was back on TV doing what he does best. It raises the question of how Chase’s exit will impact the show.
As a fan of the show, what do you think?
Earlier in the year, after clashes with departed creator Dan Harmon, Chase let his feelings be known that he thought sitcoms were the lowest form of television before recently using the N-word on-set in a frustrated tirade over his character’s dialogue, which the legendary SNL funnyman found offensive. Following the misstep, Chase apologized to the Community cast.
Despite the exit of Chevy Chase, Community will continue its fourth season in February on NBC.
So, will Pierce Hawthorne be written out of the show? Will Pierce follow Charlie Harper of Two and a Half Men and die an unusual death?
As THR reveals, it appears that Chase’s departure will be written into the show and that Community fans can expect to see Chase in the season finale.
