X-Men: Days of Future Past has signed Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen to reprise their roles as Professor X and Magneto in the X-Men: First Class sequel.
The news of Stewart and McKellan in X-Men: Days of Future Past came via director Bryan Singer who confirmed the two actors in a tweet on Tuesday.
“Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 & @SirPatStew are joining the cast of #XMEN #DaysOfFuturePast,” tweeted Singer. “#magneto #professorX More to come…”
Singer, who directed X-Men and the sequel X2: X-Men United, also confirmed other cast members of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“I’d like to officially welcome back James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, & Nicholas Hoult to #XMENfor #DaysOfFuturePast,” Singer added on Twitter.
Actors Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy will reprise their roles as the younger Professor Xavier and Magneto. Jennifer Lawrence will return to the role of Mystique while Nicolas Hoult reprises his role as Beast.
Simon Kinberg wrote the script based on the X-Men storyline “Days of Future Past” which appeared back in 1981 in books #141 and 142 of the Uncanny X-Men comic book series. It was in this series that an alternate version of Marvel’s mutants emerged, one in which the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killed a senator. It was this chain of events that led to all mutants being hunted by Sentinels.
X-Men: Days of Future Past will hit theaters on July 18, 2014.
