Rihanna finally landed her first #1 album after Unapologetic debuted on Tuesday with 238,000 in sales to knock Taylor Swift’s Red from the top spot.
According to figures released by Nielsen SoundScan, Unapologetic debuted at #1 with 53,000 more in sales than Taylor Swift’s Red which fell to the #2 with sales of 185,000.
Other notable debuts included One Direction at #3 with 176,000 in sales and American Idol winner Phillip Phillips’ major-label debut called The World From the Side of the Moon in the #4 spot with 169,000 copies sold.
Although Rihanna has amassed twelve #1 singles, Unapologetic is her first album to debut at #1.
The top debut of Unapologetic proves that despite a flurry of negative publicity over her alleged relationship with Chris Brown, Rihanna’s music came out the winner. Was the negative publicity good PR for Rihanna? Perhaps since she’s been able to stay in the public eye on a weekly basis.
Rihanna recently wrapped her 777 tour in which she performed seven concerts in seven days in seven countries.
