The X Factor returned to Fox for another double elimination on Thursday that sent two of the remaining Top 8 singers home in the final week of November.
The first elimination came without warning. Paige Thomas was the first to go. Although the judges were shocked by the results, Paige took her exit with grace. “Now I get to go home and really put in some work and show everyone I’ve got bigger things to do,” Paige promised.
Best of luck, Paige!
As promised earlier in the week, season one runner-up Josh Krajcik returned to The X Factor to perform his new single “One Thing She’ll Never Know” from his self-titled debut album. Like last season, Josh was in fine form with his powerful vocals. He’s a true star in our book.
When the Top 5 acts were announced, Carly Rose Sonenclar, Tate Stevens, Fifth Harmony, Emblem3, and Cece Frey were all safe. No one was more shocked than Simon Cowell over the fact that Cece made the Top 5.
That left 13-year old Diamond White and rocker Vino Alan to sing for survival.
Prior to the sing-off, fans got another high-end performance when Alicia Keys took the stage to sing her latest hit, “Girl on Fire.” Backed by a troupe of male dancers, the soulful R&B chanteuse gave the X Factor hopefuls a killer example of how it’s done.
For the sing-off, Diamond White went back to basics with another power ballad, Beyonce’s “I Was Here.” The slow tempo of the song was Diamond’s wheelhouse and comfort zone. Once again, the young singer nailed it and did what she had to in order to survive.
Second on the sing-off docket, Vino Alan took on Ray LaMontagne’s “Trouble” and poured his heart and soul into the tune. Although the judges struggled with their decision, Vino Alan was cut from competition after a 3-1 vote.
Here’s how The X Factor singers ranked on Thursday night in the new Top 6:
1. Carly Rose Sonenclar
2. Tate Stevens
4. Fifth Harmony
5. CeCe Frey
6. Diamond White
