The Walking Dead was renewed for a fourth season this week amid news that producer Glen Mazzara would be parting ways with the popular AMC zombie series.
AMC confirmed that The Walking Dead will be back for Season 4 but without showrunner Glen Mazzara who has parted ways with the show over creative differences. In a statement released by AMC, as reported by Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that Mazzara took issue with the direction of The Walking Dead and the creative territory of where the show was headed.
Producer Gale Anne Hurd was thankful for Mazzara’s work on the show. “I am appreciative and grateful to Glen for his hard work on The Walking Dead,” said The Walking Dead producer. “I am supportive of AMC and Glen’s decision and know that the series is in great hands with one of the most talented and dedicated casts and crews in the business.”
Although Mazzara leaves The Walking Dead, the AMC series is still one of the most popular shows on television and a cable heavyweight with 10 million viewers per episode.
Based upon the show’s huge success and following, the Season 4 renewal was only a matter of time.
In the mid-season finale, the group of survivors led by Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes character stormed the town of Woodbury where Daryl was captured by The Governor and left to fight for his life with brother Merle.
