Leverage Canceled by TNT, Finale to Air December 25

TNT has canceled Leverage after five seasons and will air the series finale on Christmas Day, December 25, to close out the show’s successful run.

Earlier this month, Leverage producer, Dean Devlin, issued a statement to fans to say that he and series creator, John Rodgers, had wrapped up Season 5 in a way that will give fans final closure.

At the time of Devlin’s statement, the Leverage production team was uncertain about the fate of the series for Season 6 and wanted to write the ending in case TNT decided not to renew the Timothy Hutton topped show.

In a public statement to fans, TNT was grateful for the success of Leverage.

“TNT’s Leverage has thrilled audiences with its delightfully intricate plots,” the network expressed, “its ‘stand up for the little guy’ attitude and its terrific performances from stars Timothy Hutton, Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, Beth Riesgraf and Aldis Hodge. But after five wonderful years, it’s time to say goodbye. Leverage will come to a close on Christmas, Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 9 p.m., with a series finale that stands as one of the show’s best episodes.”

Leverage made its debut in December 2008 and quickly became a fan favorite as the crack team of “Mastermind” Nate Ford (Hutton), “Grifter” Sophie Deveraux (Gina Bellman), “Hacker” Alec Hardison (Aldis Hodge), “Hitter” Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane), and “Thief” Parker (Beth Riesgraf) battled evil corporations and governmental injustices on the side of the citizens of America.

Leverage will end its series run on December 25 at 9 p.m. with “The Long Goodbye Job.”

    I think there are two big things about this announcement which are important. First, I think it’s great that the crew was able to film a proper series finale for the show on relatively short notice, and a hunch. Second, my coworker at DISH and I think it’s odd that TNT would wait until the last minute to announce their not going to pick the show up for a sixth season. Regardless, it’s been a great show, and I can’t wait to see the series finale on my DISH Hopper. It can stream content to four TVs simultaneously, so I can watch Leverage in the den while my family watches holiday movies in the family room.
