Director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy has apparently narrowed casting for the lead superhero role to actors Zachary Levi and Jim Sturgess.
Although Zachary Levi (NBC’s Chuck)and Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas) were not on a larger list of potential choices for the lead Guardians of the Galaxy of Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) that was rumored only a month ago, Variety now reveals that Levi and Sturgess are the top choices.
The upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy is based on the 2008 reboot of the series from Marvel Comics. Director James Gunn also co-wrote the screenplay along with Nicole Perlman and Chris McCoy. Despite the new information about Levi and Sturgess, no casting choices have been confirmed.
Although very little is known about the movie plot, concept art for the film surfaced earlier this year that included Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, and Gamora.
In the Guardians of the Galaxy comics, Star-Lord forms a team of inter-stellar superheroes who band together to help protect the universe. The group establishes a base of operations on a space station called Knowhere, which houses a teleportation system with near-universal range. Using the device, the Guardians can easily teleport to help prevent a crisis from occurring.
Guardians of the Galaxy has a release date of August 1, 2014.
