Russell Crowe plays Inspector Javert in Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables
Russell Crowe addressed recent critcism of Les Miserables by singer Adam Lambert who said that the musical suffered from actors trying to be singers.
Only a day after singer Adam Lambert shared his opinion of Les Miserables on Twitter, actor Russell Crowe responded to Lambert’s criticism of the Tom Hooper directed musical.
On Tuesday, Adam Lambert tweeted that Les Miserables was, in his opinion, “visually impressive [with] great emotional performances. But the score suffered massively with great actors PRETENDING to be singers.”
Although Lambert did like the acting performances of Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen, the former American Idol contestant feels that Hollywood “movie musicals treat the singing as the last priority.”
On Wednesday, actor Russell Crowe, who plays police inspector Javert in Les Miserables, shared his take on what Lambert had to say.
“I don’t disagree with Adam,” tweeted Crowe, “Sure it could have been sweetened, Hooper wanted it raw and real, that’s how it is.”
Russell Crowe sings two songs on the soundtrack for Les Miserables, as compared to the seven of Hugh Jackman and one each from Anne Hathaway and Sacha Baron Coen.
