The Bachelor returns to ABC on January 7 with Sean Lowe looking for love among twenty-six female contestants in the reality show’s seventeenth season.

After being eliminated by Emily Maynard last season on The Bachelorette, Dallas insurance agent Sean Lowe finally gets his own shot at landing the perfect girl. For many fans of The Bachelorette, Sean was the perfect guy for Emily who ended up choosing hipster entrepreneur Jef Holm. In the end, Sean was the lucky one since Emily and Jef have reportedly parted ways.

Although Sean seemed like the obvious choice for The Bachelor after being rebuffed by Emily last season, other names were also in the mix before a final decision was made. New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow was approached but declined the offer. Although Portland sportscaster Lamar Hurd attempted to become the first African-American Bachelor, things didn’t work out. Former Bachelorette contestants Roberto Martinez and Arie Luyendyk Jr. were also in the running along with Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte. As it turned out, Sean was the perfect choice.

This season on The Bachelor the contestant field has expanded to twenty-six, two more than the usual twenty-four. Rumor had it that a former contestant would return as a mystery guest before several outlets reported that former season sixteen Bachelor fan favorite Kacie Boguskie was back this season.

In a surprising twist, producers have apparently added former Bachelor Pad contestant Paige Vigil to the season’s list of potential love-mates for Sean. Among the other twenty-four, ABC cast a diverse group of women that includes a model, poker dealer, graduate student, journalist, and political consultant.

With two extra women in the house, it means less bathroom counter space and A LOT more drama.

So, what can fans expect from The Bachelor?

Well, judging by the early previews, it appears that Sean already knows who his future wife will be in the early weeks of the competition. But a serious medical emergency puts Sean in a difficult position amid a flurry of accusations that someone’s on the show with an ulterior motive.

Do you think Sean was the best choice to be The Bachelor? Who will get the first rose?

What do you think?
