USA Network renewed Necessary Roughness for a third season and ten new episodes ahead of the upcoming January 23 return of the popular cable drama.

The upcoming third season of Necessary Roughness will include ten new episodes slated to air this summer on USA Network. The renewal follows new season go-aheads of other USA shows such as Suits, Burn Notice, Royal Pains, White Collar, and Covert Affairs.

The announcement was made this week by USA Network Co-Presidents Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel.

“Necessary Roughness is an important page in our network playbook,” said Wachtel and McCumber. “With a standout team of actors and writers playing at the top of their game, the upcoming seasons promise to deliver high-impact and creative storytelling.”

According to the official USA release, Necessary Roughness paired with Royal Pains, averaged 5.3 million viewers as the Wednesday night block this summer. The season two premiere of necessary Roughness nabbed 4.6 million total viewers.

Season two returns on January 23 at 10/9c with five episodes leading to a dramatic finale. After running the risk of losing her entire practice, Dani (Callie Thorne) attempts to pick up the pieces of her complicated life. Meanwhile, Hawks star player and ultimate bad boy TK (Mehcad Brooks) struggles with his sobriety but will stop at nothing to maintain his number-one position as wide receiver. And with the franchise’s ownership in the balance, the team is challenged when a secret threatens to bring down the Hawks’ entire season.

Season 2 of Necessary Roughness returns on January 23.
