Actress Jane Seymour makes her guest debut in the new Fox comedy Ben and Kate on January 8 in the role of BJ’s not so motherly British mother Wendy.
In the new Ben and Kate episode called “B-Squad”, former Dr. Quinn actress Jane Seymour steps into the role of mother to Lucy Punch’s character, BJ.
As fans know, BJ has several secrets that she’d like to keep from her mother, including how she’s actually married to Ben and that she parties way harder than the average girl.
So, with Jane Seymour in the guest role of BJ’s mom, how does Wendy react to the secrets her daughter is keeping?
“She’s not sure if she could ever trust in or believe anything that BJ says,” Seymour told The Deadbolt ahead of the first season return, “because BJ keeps saying she’s engaged to this man or that man or this prince, or whatever it is. I think her mother sees right through all of this. Her mother has her own agenda and she sort of looks at BJ slightly as a competitor but also like, ‘Oh dear, poor BJ!’ I don’t think her mother rates BJ too much.”
Also in this week’s Ben and Kate, Maddie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) fails the test to get into the gifted program at her school and becomes part of “The B-Squad,” which prompts Kate (Dakota Johnson) to give the squad an unforgettable experience.
As Ben (Nate Faxon) runs into an old pal from college who stole one of his business ideas, BJ’s mother arrives only to get a surprising introduction to Buddy (guest star Rob Corddry).
In preparing for Ben and Kate, was there anyone in particular that Jane Seymour used as inspiration for BJ’s mother?
“No,” added the former Dr. Quinn and Wedding Crashers actress. “Reading the script and reading the character, I just thought she was a wonderfully inapproprate mother really. There’s nothing remotely motherly about her and she’s a bit of a piranha really. She’ll do whatever suits her. She’s not terribly concerned about BJ at all and she’ll go with whatever happens. She’s pretending to be a mother, acting the role.”
Ben and Kate returns Tuesday, January 8 at 8:30/7:30c on Fox.
