CBS announced the June 24 summer premiere date of Under the Dome based on the the 2009 science fiction novel by acclaimed horror author Stephen King.
During the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Los Angeles, CBS announced that Stephen King series Under the Dome will premiere June 24, 2013 to start a 13 episode run.
Adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name, Under the Dome tells the story of small town in Maine that’s mysteriously separated from the outside world by a dome.
At the TCA press event, CBS also showcased a video reel with interviews with Stephen King and writer Brian K. Vaughan.
“It’s really exciting to take the book and possibly expand it,” said King in one of the interviews. “That’s what TV is for … TV is an expansive medium.”
Interestingly, Under the Dome comes with high production value since the new series is produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.
“I’ve always wanted to work with Steven,” added King. “Our view of American life is similar … we both see the extraordinary in ordinary things and people.”
The first official preview for Under the Dome will air during Super Bowl XLVII on February 3.
CBS’s Entertainment President Nina Tassler gave insight into the first season by saying the series would end with a major piece of information revealed. The conclusion of Under the Dome could lead to a second season depending on performance.
Under the Dome is part of CBS’s new summer lineup that includes premieres from Big Brother, an untitled reality baking show, and the return of Unforgettable. CBS will also air reruns of some of its most popular shows including CSI, The Good Wife, and The Mentalist.
