The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards took place on Sunday at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles where the year’s best in film and television were honored for their efforts.
When the Golden Globe Awards wrapped for another year, it was a fair and balanced night of winners as Les Miserables, Argo, Lincoln, Django Unchained, Girls, and Homeland took home awards while Ben Affleck finally got the recognition he deserved after being snubbed by the Academy Awards.
Although there were a few surprise guests, like former President Bill Clinton, no one was able to steal the spotlight away from the evening’s winners. Actress Jodie Foster was also honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her lifetime achievement in film.
In the major film categories at the Golden Globes, director Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables took home three awards, including Best Motion Picture- Comedy or Musical, Best Actor in a Musical for Hugh Jackman, and Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for Anne Hathaway. Jennifer Lawrence was a surprise winner when the Silver Linings Playbook actress took home the award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical over Meryl Streep, Maggie Smith, and Judi Dench.
Quentin Tarantino won the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay for Django Unchained, which also produced a Best Supporting winner in Christoph Waltz.
Early Golden Globe favorite Daniel Day Lewis won the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama for his lead role in Lincoln while Jessica Chastain took home Best Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama for her work in Zero Dark Thirty.

For Ben Affleck, however, the Golden Globe Awards turned out to be sweet redemption. Although Ben Affleck was left out of the directing category at last week’s 2013 Oscar nominations, Affleck won Best Director on Sunday for his work on the political thriller Argo before taking home the award for Best Motion Picture-Drama.
Television’s big winners included Homeland, which took home three awards in Best Series-Drama, Best Actor and Best Actress for both Damien Lewis and Claire Danes. It was a great follow-up for the Homeland duo who won the same awards at the Emmy Awards. The HBO comedy Girls was a surprise hit of the night with Best TV Series-Comedy and a win for Lena Dunham in the Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy category.
Actress Maggie Smith won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or TV Movie for her work in Downton Abbey.
Other notables included Don Cheadle and his win for Best Actor in a TV Series-Drama in House of Lies, Julianne Moore for Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie for Game Change, and Kevin Costner’s win as Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie for his work in Hatfields & McCoys.
