Actor Milo Ventimiglia takes on the role of a lawyer turned reluctant killer in Chosen, a new web series thriller debuting on Crackle January 17.

In Chosen, former Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia executive produces and plays Ian Mitchell, a husband, father and lawyer, who discovers a mysterious box on his doorstep containing a loaded gun and a photo of a stranger he must kill within the next three days.

As the previews for Chosen indicate, the seemingly safe life of Ian Mitchell suddenly changes on a dime when the mysterious box arrives.

So, how does Milo Ventimiglia see his character at the start of the new online story?

“He’s kind of a mild-mannered type fo guy who works in a law office and wears a tie,” said Ventimiglia to The Deadbolt prior to the debut of Chosen. “He has these struggle of words with his ex-wife, his marriage is falling apart, and he’s this guy who’s dealing with everyday problems.”

When Chosen begins, Ian quickly learns that if he doesn’t kill the stranger (Diedrich Bader), he may be killed himself along with his daughter who is being held hostage. Confused and desperate, Ian is transformed from an ordinary man into an unwilling assassin.

“When this box arrives,” continued Milo, “he’s now hunted and has to hunt. He’s put into this game that, as the trailer says, is not the fun kind. He has to adapt as a human being for the sense of survival. He has to change in order to survive not only for himself but his daughter and his family.”

Chosen is the third web series for Milo Vetimiglia who previously starred in Ultradome and It’s a Mall World. For Sony’s digital platform Crackle, Chosen follows the successful debuts of The Unknown, starring Dominic Monaghan, Webby award winner Urban Wolf, and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee from Jerry Seinfeld.

Although Milo will return to television on TNT in Frank Darabont’s 1940s set L.A. Noir, about the power struggle between the L.A.P.D. and the criminal underworld, Ventimiglia believes that the Internet is a viable digital medium for alternate programming and storytelling.

“I’m so excited about digital because of the reach,” added Ventimiglia to The Deadbolt. “With theatrical releases, some countries don’t get movies and they’re in and out of theaters. With TV, maybe some viewers don’t get a channel or pay cable. Maybe some people are in a remote part of the world where they don’t get what some of the networks are putting out. With digital, I feel that anybody can access it.”

The new web series will run six, 30 minute episodes and co-stars Diedrich Bader, Nicky Whelan and Brett Davern alongside Milo in the lead role.

For Ventimiglia, it’s all about producing digital quality that can match mainstream film and television.

“With Chosen on Crackle.com,” Milo elaborated, “and me being a guy who has been in the digital space for a long time now, it’s something I’m going to continue to do. Hopefully, as it builds, people will understand that you can get the same quality on digital as you can in a movie theater.”

Chosen debuts on Crackle.com and all Crackle platforms beginning January 17.
