Actor Paul Giamatti is reportedly in talks to play Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Actor Paul Giamatti is in talks to play the villain Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the sequel last year’s Spider-Man reboot with Andrew Garfield.
On Monday, Hollywood Reporter revealed that Paul Giamatti is in talks to potentially play The Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 along with actress Felicity Jones who is apparently eyeing an unspecified role in the superhero sequel.
Should Giamatti and Jones officially sign on to the The Amazing Spider-Man sequel, both actors would join a growing all-star cast that already includes Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, and Dane DeHaan.
In the published Spider-Man comic books, Rhino made his debut as a villain in The Amazing Spider-Man #41 in October 1966. The character of Aleksei Sytsevich was introduced as a man who volunteered to participate in an experiment that bonded a super strong polymer to his skin which increased his strength and speed.
Although barely any details were released about The Rhino’s involvement in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, he could prove to be some much-needed muscle or competition for Electro (Jamie Foxx).
Back in 2011, Paul Giamatti told told ShowbizSpy that he always wanted to play The Rhino in a live-action film. “I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid,” admitted Giamatti. “It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies?’ But maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me…If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit theatres on May 2, 2014.
