Drake releases “Started from the Bottom” from his upcoming third studio album
Drake gave fans “Started from the Bottom” earlier than expected on Friday after the rapper decided to release the first single from his third studio album.
Although Drake had “Started from the Bottom” slated for release on Februrary 10 to coincide with the 55th Grammy Awards, the Canadian rapper posted the new single on his OVO blog on Friday, almost two weeks ahead of schedule.
Along with the track, Drake wrote a special note to fans about his past struggles that inspired the new album.
“I feel sometimes that people don’t have enough information about my beginnings,” said Drake on his blog, “and therefore they make up a life story for me that isn’t consistent with actual events. My family and my second family (consisting of the best friends anybody could ever have) all struggled and worked extremely hard to make all this happen. I did not buy my way into this spot and it was the furthest thing from easy to achieve.”
With the early release of “Started from the Bottom”, Drake’s fans were more than ready to hear what the young star had to say. “Thank you for being you Drake,” wrote one young fan. “Always a pleasure listening to you!”
“Started from the Bottom” pays tribute to Drake’s team, which he called family. On Friday, Drake emphasized that his team and family were most important since they had all worked together to build his career.
As for the early release of “Started from the Bottom”, Drake’s decision felt right. “I didn’t feel I needed any interviews or radio or press to launch this song,” said the rapper. “It felt right to come back to the site that I started on and release it to the people that started here with me.”
