Kristen Wiig has been cast in Anchorman: The Legend Continues alongside SNL vet Will Ferrell who returns as Channel Four news anchor Ron Burgandy.
Although details have not been released about which Anchorman character Kristen Wiig will play in the sequel, the news was confirmed this week by various key players attached to The Legend Continues.
Anchorman 2 director Adam McKay took to Twitter to confirm that Wiig had indeed joined the cast.
“Just found out Kristen Wiig [is] officially on board for Anchorman 2,” McKay revealed on Monday. “Cannonball!”
Christina Applegate, who will return to the role of Channel Four co-anchor Veronica Corningstone, also tweeted her excitement about the addition of Wiig.
“So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for Anchorman 2,” tweeted Applegate. “Going [to be the] best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made.”
It was reported in December of last year that Wiig was in talks to join the sequel to the 2004 comedy as a potential love interest for Steve Carell’s Brick Tamland character.
In April of 2012, Adam McKay gave fans a few nuggest of what to expect from Anchorman: The Legend Continues.
“Keep in mind we’re still writing the story,” said McKay last year, “but I’ll say one phrase for you: custody battle. I’ll give you that. I’ll give you one other one: bowling for dollars.
The teaser for Anchorman 2 was released in May.
