Kate Upton was named the cover model for the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition for the second year in a row in a new spread called Polar Bare.
Sports Illustrated brought back Kate Upton as the new cover girl of the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition after the magazine tweeted the news on Friday.
“POLAR BARE: @KateUpton in Antarctica is your 2013 SI Swimsuit Cover Model,” tweeted Sports Illustrated before the weekend with a photo of Upton on the SI cover.
The Sports Illustrated spread was shot in Antarctica back in December 2012 where Kate Upton braved the frigid elements and -35F weather. The SI shoot took place outdoors aboard a yacht where Upton spent most of her time in a white bikini and fluffy snow boots and on land where Kate was snapped cuddling up to a giant Oreo ice cream sandwich.
Although she’s already one of the most sought after talents in the modeling industry, Kate Upton’s SI cover will likely land her even more endorsement deals. Upton joins an elite group of supermodels like Christie Brinkley, Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, and Elle MacPherson who all went on to launch successful careers beyond the modeling world.
Prior to the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover, Upton landed the cover of Italian Vogue in November.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition hits newsstands on Tuesday, February 12.
