Although former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood has gone on to become one of country music’s most successful female stars, Underwood has always ranked behind Kelly Clarkson in album sales from past American Idol contestants. Now, however, Carrie Underwood has surpassed Kelly Clarkson as the top album seller from American Idol.
According to MSNBC, Carrie Underwood has become the top seller from American Idol, an achievement that Simon Cowell predicted back in Season 4. Despite the fact that in nine years Kelly Clarkson has sold 10,600,000 albums and 15,900,000 digital tracks, Carrie Underwood has sold 12,296,000 albums with more than 18,482,000 digital tracks in seven years.
Carrie Underwood also topped Kelly Clarkson in tour revenue, with Underwood at $66,000,000 while Clarkson sits at $32,000,000. Kelly Clarkson has been hard at work over the past year on her fifth album, which will undoubtedly shake up the top selling American Idol list all over again.
