Moneyball scored a homerun at the box office on Friday, after the Brad Pitt baseball film earned $6.8 million to narrowly beat last week’s number one film The Lion King 3D.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Moneyball, starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill, won Friday’s box office with $6.8 million in ticket sales that put the new baseball film on track to earn in the neighborhood of $20 million by the end of the weekend, which would make Moneyball the best debut of any baseball movie in history.
Close behind Moneyball was Disney’s The Lion King 3D, which earned $6.1 million and is predicted to top the weekend box office again with profits over $20 million. In third place was Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. true life story Dolphin Tale, which earned $5.1 million. Taylor Lautner came in fourth place with his new action flick Abduction with $3.8 million. Jason Statham and Robert De Niro came in fifth place with $3.5 million for Killer Elite.
