Film director Brett Ratner resigned as the producer of the 84th Academy Awards after Ratner made headlines this week for a remark about gay people.
According to Hollywood Reporter, director Brett Ratner stepped down as the producer of the 84th Oscars this week in relation to a gay slur that Ratner made last week during a Q&A for Tower Heist. After taking a question about how the Tower heist actors prepared for the film, Ratner made the comment “rehearsal’s for fags”, which landed the director in hot water.
On Tuesday, Brett Ratner announced his resignation as Oscar producer. “I called Tom Sherak this morning and resigned as a producer of the 84th Academy Awards telecast,” said Ratner. “Being asked to help put on the Oscar show was the proudest moment of my career. But as painful as this may be for me, it would be worse if my association with the show were to be a distraction from the Academy and the high ideals it represents.”
