Comedian Billy Crystal announced that he will host the 2011 Academy Awards following the recent Oscar resignation by producer Brett Ratner and confirmation that Eddie Murphy would not be this year’s host.
On Thursday afternoon, actor and comedian Billy Crystal tweeted that he will host the 2011 Academy Awards. With Billy Crystal back for the Academy, it will mark the ninth time that Crystal will have hosted the annual awards event. “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions,” tweeted Crystal. “Looking forward to the show.”
Earlier this week, Brett Ratner resigned as the Oscar producer after landing in hot water over a remark about gay people. Previously scheduled host Eddie Murphy decided to step down this week as well. Brian Grazer took over as the Oscar producer and now Billy Crystal will act as host.
