The original members of Black Sabbath held a reunion press conference on Friday at the legendary Whiskey A-Go-Go in Los Angeles to announce the band’s new Rick Rubin produced album and upcoming World Tour.
During the Black Sabbath press conference, which is now featured on Revolver TV at YouTube, guitarist Tony Iommi described how producer Rick Rubin was chosen to produce the first Black Sabbath album with original members since 1978. “It was Rick, he kept phoning us every 5 minutes,” said Iommi. “We couldn’t stop him.” Legendary Black Sabbath front man Ozzy Osbourne confirmed that choosing Rick Rubin for the job was a no brainer. “It was the obvious choice,” added Ozzy. “I’ve known Rick for many years.”
Former Black Flag singer Henry Rollins hosted the Black Sabbath press conference with questions for the band about the process that led the metal gods back to each other and into the studio. Rollins mentioned the fact that Black Sabbath made an attempt to record a new album with Rick Rubin back in the late 1990’s, which resulted in the release of only two new Sabbath songs. The new 2012 release will be the first full length studio album with the original Black Sabbath lineup since 1978’s “Never Say Die!”
