According to CNN, movie collectors will have a new prize to bid on now that the Best Writing Oscar (Original Screenplay) won by Orson Welles for the film Citizen Kane is up for auction. The Oscar was the only win for Orson Welles, who wrote, directed, and starred in Citizen Kane in 1941. Previous attempts to auction off the Oscar were prevented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2007, when the golden statue was estimated to be worth $1 million.
Sam Heller, a spokesman for Nate D. Sanders Auctions, revealed that in 2004 a judge ruled that the Oscar could be sold since Orson Welles never signed an agreement with the Academy not to sell the award.
Final bidding for the online auction will end on December 20.
