Beastie Boys rapper and co-founder Adam “MCA” Yauch died on Friday after Yauch succumbed to cancer at only 47 years of age after being diagnosed in 2009.

Adam Yauch was diagnosed with cancer three years ago when a tumor was discovered in one of his salivary glands. Determined to continue his musical career, Yauch and the Beastie Boys released their latest album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2 in 2011 after a few delays due to Yauch’s health.

The Beastie Boys were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and will continue to be remembered as one of the pioneering musical acts to incorporate various musical genres into their music. Scores of musicians have cited Adam Yauch and the Beastie Boys as influences.
