Men in Black 3 Tops The Avengers at Memorial Box Office

Men in Black 3, starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, took in $70 million at the Memorial Day weekend box office to knock The Avengers into second place.

Men in Black 3, which reunited Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones for a third time, earned $70 million over the four day Memorial Day long weekend to take the top spot at the holiday box office. In second place was The Avengers at $47.1 million, which was well ahead of the third place Battleship at $13.6 million, and now totals $523.6 million at the domestic box office. The Dictator finished fourth for the Memorial Day weekend with $11.8 million ahead of Dark Shadows in fifth spot at $9.4 million.

Although Men in Black 3 opened relatively strong, the box office numbers were still lower than the first two Men in Black films amid a box office weekend that was 32% lower than last year, according to the L.A. Times.
