Spartacus to End After Third Season

5 years ago by Reg Seeton

The Starz series Spartacus will end its run with the third upcoming season called War of the Damned, which will air early next year in January 2013.

On Monday, Starz officially made the announcement about the end of Spartacus, which is currently shooting its third and final season called Spartacus: War of the Damned. Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight revealed on Monday why he and his crew decided to end the show. “It was an extremely difficult and emotional decision for my partners and I,” admitted DeKnight in a Starz statement. “Yet, in the end, the story was best served by rolling all of the remaining action and drama of Spartacus’ journey into one stunningly epic season that will be extremely satisfying for everyone who’s been along for the ride.”

Although Spartacus is still popular with fans, DeKnight told Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview that finishing strong was more appealing than allowing the series to grow weak. “I’ve always thought that five seasons was the perfect number,” DeKnight said to THR, “you’ve got enough time to tell a great story, but there’s not so much real estate that you start to get a little flabby in the middle.”

Technically, yes it has been three seasons, but officially one was a half season. Season 1, 1.5, 2. It is confusing. With the struggles this series has had with Andy’s illness and death what would you expect

I Agree whole-heartedly with the decision. Liam McIntyre gave it his best shot but without Andy Whitfield it just wasn’t the same. Andy embodied Spartacus and entranced the audience. Its hard to replace that.

Yeah the replacement Spartacus, doesn’t have enough Grit to pull off the part, he looks like a “Boy model” not a rough ex slave. I mostly ignored this for the sake of the story. I’ll miss this show, but i’m sure we will get more Rome Gladiators in some future show.
