Although Ann Curry replaced the departed Meredith Vieira on Today one year ago, it now appears that Curry’s longtime involvement with Today could be over. Ann Curry joined the Today show in 1997 and was hired last June as co-host. However, given the fact Matt Lauer was recently locked with a multi-year contract, speculation has it Curry became a variable to possibly be replaced.
The New York Times reported that an an anonymous source said that NBC began talks with Ann Curry weeks ago about her departure from Today.
The big question on the NBC table is whether Ann Curry will remain with Today or be transferred to another division of the network. After attempts to clarify the matter, NBC refused to comment on the Today issue with Curry. The NY Times report also revealed that Ann Curry hired a Washington lawyer to represent her in the negotiations but neither her attorney or Curry would comment on the matter.
Amid the speculation, Ann Curry did report to work at Today on Thursday morning for her on-air duties.
