HBO has renewed both the Aaron Sorkin drama The Newsroom and True Blood after the two cable shows posted strong numbers for the network.
After The Newsroom premiered as the third best drama debut for HBO, the cable network renewed the new Aaron Sorkin created series for a second season. As well, HBO also renewed True Blood for a sixth season after the vampire drama posted a strong season five return in the ratings.
Hollywood Reporter reveals that The Newsroom, starring Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston, and Emily Mortimer, debuted to 2.1 million viewers to put the new media drama behind the premieres of Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones.
True Blood drew 5.2 million viewers to guarantee a sixth season of the popular Alan Ball created vampire series.
