Country star Keith Urban may soon be an American Idol judge after Katie Couric revealed the news in an interview with former Idol judge Jennifer Lopez.
During an interview with Jennifer Lopez, as reported by ABC News, new daytime host Katie Couric asked the former American Idol judge if an announcement has been made about who will sit next to Mariah Carey at the Idol judge’s table next season. “Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy,” said Lopez. “Randy’s back.”
Following the exits of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, American Idol announced that Mariah Carey would fill one vacant seat while rumors surfaced that Nicki Minaj would fill another seat. Now it appears that country star Keith Urban will join the show, too.
Although Fox has not officially confirmed the news, it’s now being reported that Urban has left his role on the Australiann version of The Voice, which only bolsters what Jennifer Lopez told Katie Couric.
Interestingly, in relation to country music and American Idol, Carrie Underwood and Scotty McCreery have enjoyed major success. If Keith Urban joins Idol, he could potentially give Blake Shelton a run for his country money as the most charming reality singing competition.
