The X Factor Recap: Final Auditions End on High Note

5 years ago by Nadya Vlassoff

The final auditions of The X Factor took place on Thursday night as the judges looked to finish on a high note before heading to the bootcamp stage.

With so many misses on Wednesday night’s episode of The X Factor, things had to get better on Thursday. Fortunately for fans at home, they did. The final audition phase closed out on a high before several great performances, a truly inspirational moment, and one last backstage meltdown.

On Thursday, viewers learned the X Factor faite of 13-year old Trevor Moran who he fainted from exhaustion but rebounded to perform LMFAO’s “I’m Sexy and I know It”. It was a strange performance but the judges liked Moran for his potential more than his singing. On to bootcamp Trevor went.

Next up, Owen Stuart took on “Airplanes” by B.O.B. and Haley Williams as tribute to his long-distance girlfriend. Romantic word vomit aside, Stuart performed well enough to get through. It was Britney Spears, however, who didn’t think Owen had The X Factor.

Singer Freddie Combs was the standout performance of the night. At 540 pounds, Combs was wheeled onstage by his wife to sing Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings”. It was an inspirational moment since Freddie admitted that he used to weight 920 pounds. The crowd was on their feet for Freddie who was unanimously put through by the judges. Freddie even earned the respect of Simon Cowell. “I don’t think you deserve to be stuck in that chair,” said Cowell. “We have to make a deal with each other: I’ll back you, if you back yourself.”

As The X Factor continued its final audition phase, 12-year old Jordyn Foley hit the stage to sing the classic Annie tune “Tomorrow”, a song that Simon admitted he was allergic to. It was another odd performance, not bad, but Jordyn charmed her way into three yes votes from Britney, Demi, and L.A. Reid. Simon, on the other hand, wasn’t swayed.

As for the cringe worthy moments on Thursday, 21-year-old Bobby House threw a curse fueled tantrum backstage before undressing himself for some reason. Bobby certainly left a lasting impression and will likely challenge Deangelo Wallace for the most childish contestant on The X Factor.

The last audition belonged to 16-year old Lauren Jauregui, who took a big gamble with the Alicia Keys song “If I Ain’t Got You”. Jauregui gave a phenomenal performance to end The X Factor auditions on a high note. Just like Carly Rose Sonenclar, who performed Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”, Lauren owned her performance to suit her mature singing style.

The bootcamp stage of The X Factor begins next week. Look for the judges to narrow down the remaining contestants to select the performers they want to mentor.

I actually thought Jordyn’s audition was pretty cringe-worthy. I’m with Simon on that one – that song is completely unbearable, and she just didn’t deserve to go through. There’s no way she’s going to be able to compete with Diamond White and Carly Rose Sonenclar. My favorite from last night was definitely Lauren. Her voice is amazing. I wasn’t able to watch this episode last night since I work late nights at DISH these days, but my Hopper recorded it for me to watch as soon as I walked in the door. My roommate has gotten me addicted to shows like this (completely against my will, for the record).
