Revenge returned to ABC on Sunday with the fourth episode of the season called “Intuition” in which fans saw more heartbreaking revelations for Emily, Nolan, Jack, and Charlotte.
Before we get to the many questions we have surrounding Emily, here’s what went down this week:
A woman’s intuition:
As the second season drama on Revenge continued, Emily (Emily VanCamp) once again realized that her plans for revenge would have unintended consequences. This time, however, it was Amanda (Margarita Levieva) and her baby who took the fall (literally) and wound up in the emergency room after Victoria (Madeline Stowe) caused her to tumble over a balcony. With his baby’s life on the line, Jack (Nick Wechsler) had to make a tough decision, to save his baby’s life or Amanda. To make things easier, Emily told Jack that Amanda wanted the baby to be saved if a decision ever needed to be made.
Nothing’s fair in love and war, especially not in the Hamptons.
In an emotional flashback, fans learned that Emily’s mother, Kara (Jennifer Jason Leigh), once tried to drown her daughter. It was a heartbreaking moment for Emily who, through the timely help of Aiden, broke down after recalling just how awful Kara was during her childhood.
However, as much as Emily’s troubled childhood evokes sympathy, we’re starting to see more of her dark and vengeful side. And since she’s remembering all of the horrific things that Kara did to her, it makes us wonder why she’s fighting so hard to find her mother. Is it for real emotional reasons, or revenge? What happens if she doesn’t get an answer she likes from Kara? Who else will join Sam, the dog, six feet under?
What started as revenge against the Graysons has escalated far beyond the intended target of Victoria. Amanda may lose her baby, her life, or perhaps both. Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) has essentially lost all ties to her parents and Emily herself will soon find herself caught between guilt and revenge now that Kara is back in the Hamptons.
Kara clearly doesn’t have her daughter’s best interests at heart. And since Emily has so many trust issues already, it’s only a matter of time before her simmering pot of revenge boils over.
But who will that revenge be directed toward, Kara or Victoria? And surely Charlotte and Daniel (Joshua Bowman) won’t take too kindly to Emily if she permanently gets rid of Victoria.
So, what do we know?
Well, Emily just lost her most valuable asset in taking down Victoria now that Amanda is in hospital. But Kara is the anomaly. Does she love or hate Emily? Does she want her daughter dead? And does she even know that Emily and Amanda are not who they say they are? We wouldn’t put it past her since Kara’s proven to be quite the wily character to date. As for Victoria, we already know that she’ll throw anyone under the bus (her husband included) if it means getting off Scott-free.
Since next week’s episode of Revenge is called “Forgiveness”, does it mean someone will be forgiven or that someone will need to ask for it? As Emily falls deeper and deeper into her own twisted plot of revenge, she could easily lose herself in the process.
But what happens when/if she finally does get her revenge? Will Emily have allies, or only enemies? Will the series be the same?
When the dust settles on the golden sand dunes of the Hamptons, Emily will finally be free … or so we think. Too bad her past demons will never go away. It’s likely that once Emily does get her revenge, she may have to ask herself whether it was all worth it in the end.
What do you guys think will happen once Emily finally does get revenge?
