Actor Frank Grillo has officially landed the role of Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones, in the upcoming Marvel sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Although the news broke after Grillo tweeted that he had read for role in the Captain America sequel, with the tag #bones, Variety reports it’s now been confirmed that Grillo will play Crossbones, a key Captain America villain that was first introduced in 1989 in Captain America #359-360.
Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones, started his comic book career as a villain at the young age of 15 and later became the leader of the Savage Crimes gang. A skilled marksman, pilot, and driver, Crossbones also possesses fire-focused energy beams.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier will also feature several other key Marvel characters, including Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier played by Sebastian Stan. It was Barnes who later took on the persona of Captain America in 2008 after Steve Rogers was presumed dead.
When Captain America returns to the big screen, fans will also see Scarlett Johansson as Natalia “Natasha” Alianovna Romanova/Black Widow.
Captain America: The First Avenger was released in 2011 abd took in $176 million at the domestic box office and almost $369 million worldwide.
Directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, Captain America: The Winter Soldier stars Chris Evans in the title role.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier will hit theaters on April 4, 2014.
